Making the cutest sheer summer dress! Perfect for a cover-up too :) // Part 1 #shorts
Hey everyone! I’m so excited to share with you a fun and easy tutorial on how to make the cutest sheer summer dress that’s perfect for a cover-up too. This is part 1 of the tutorial, so let’s dive right in!
First things first, you’ll need some supplies for this project. You’ll need a sheer fabric of your choice, some matching thread, scissors, measuring tape, pins, and a sewing machine. If you don’t have a sewing machine, don’t worry! You can hand-sew this project as well.
Start by measuring yourself to determine the length of the dress. Measure from your shoulders to where you want the hem of the dress to fall. Add a few inches for seam allowance and hemming.
Next, fold your fabric in half with the right sides facing each other. Use your measurements to cut out two rectangles of fabric for the front and back of the dress. Make sure to leave extra fabric for the straps.
Once you have your fabric cut out, it’s time to start sewing. Pin the sides of the front and back pieces together, leaving openings for the arms. Sew along the sides using a straight stitch, making sure to backstitch at the beginning and end to secure the seams.
After sewing the sides, it’s time to create the neckline and armholes. You can leave the edges raw for a more casual look, or you can fold the edges over twice and sew them down for a cleaner finish.
Now it’s time to add the straps. Cut two long strips of fabric for the straps, making sure they are long enough to be tied or to be sewn onto the dress. Pin the straps to the front and back of the dress, sew them in place, and you’re all done!
And there you have it – a cute sheer summer dress that’s perfect for throwing on over a swimsuit or wearing to a summer BBQ. Stay tuned for part 2 of this tutorial where we’ll add some fun embellishments to take this dress to the next level. Thanks for watching!
